About us
In Kent, we work with 125,000 young people between 13 – 19 years old and up to 25 for those with a learning difficulty or disability.
The service provides information, advice and guidance to help young people make a smooth transition to adulthood and working life.
It offers practical help with choosing the right courses and careers, including access to broader personal development through activities like sport, performing arts and volunteering opportunities.
In addition, it provides help and advice on issues such as drug abuse, sexual health and homelessness.
Connexions supports all young people and as a priority, those not in education, employment and training (NEET) and those likely to become disengaged.
We are funded by Kent County Council through an annual grant of £11.5 million to deliver the Connexions service. In addition we bid for additional funding from external sources to support other key projects.
Being a charity for young people enables us to put more resources into frontline services and to seek other funding opportunities.
We are a growing organisation and employ in the region of 350 staff.
Personal Advisers are the core of our system to support young people. They are based in one of 10 Connexions Access Points, local schools and colleges and other community settings. We have a central management team which is based in Maidstone and six local managers located across the area.
Young people play a key role in the design, implementation and evaluation of the service. A Youth Board debates the same issues as the main Partnership and three young people bring their views to the Board as full Directors. Young people are also fully involved in all interviews for Connexions posts.
