NVQs (National Vocational Qualifications) are qualifications designed by employers.

Each qualification has been developed to match a set of standards decided by industry and commerce and is awarded by established bodies including City and Guilds, Edexcel (formerly BTEC) and RSA. They are designed to be flexible and to equip trainees with the skills that businesses need.

NVQs reflect how well trainees can do the job, not just their ability to pass exams. Training can take place in the workplace, in training centres or at a local college.
